Cyndi Lauper‘s episode of Austin City Limits premieres on Saturday (Jan 14), but readers of The Boot can get an exclusive first look at one of the performances from show. Click play above to watch the pop singer perform Patsy Cline's "Walkin' After Midnight" as part of her ACL debut.

Best known for '80s pop hits such as "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" and "Time After Time," Lauper explored her country roots during her Austin City Limits taping. During the hour-long show, viewers will get to see Lauper perform many of the songs from her recently released 11th studio album, Detour, which features 12 covers of beloved classic country tunes.

“With Cyndi Lauper, what you see is what you get,” says ACL Executive Producer Terry Lickona in a press release. “And what you get is a totally unabashed, uninhibited, full-throated performance by one of the most unique artists in show business. Who knew she had such a perfect voice for such great country music classics? My only regret is there wasn’t time to include more of her side-splitting sense of humor.”

Throughout her set, Lauper charmed the audience with her humor and wit in between performances of Wanda Jackson’s “Funnel of Love,” Skeeter Davis’ “The End of the World,” Patsy Montana’s “I Want to Be a Cowboy’s Sweetheart” and Bob Montgomery’s “Misty Blue." And along with her unique take on those country classics, Lauper also performed some of her biggest pop hits, including "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" (which turned into an uproarious audience sing-a-long) and a beautiful a cappella version of her 1986 anthem "True Colors;" praising diversity and acceptance, Lauper ended her set with the latter song, urging the audience to "be brave and kind -- we need each other."

Lauper’s episode of ACL is scheduled to premiere on Jan. 14 at 9PM ET on PBS; check the Austin City Limits website for local broadcast information. Immediately following the initial broadcast, the episode will be available for a limited time on PBS’ website.
