U.S. Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) defeated Democrat Sara Gideon in a hotly contested race for the senate seat.

Collins announced Wednesday that Gideon, the speaker of the Maine House of Representatives, called to concede the race.

With 95 percent of results reporting, Collins is leading 51 percent to 42 percent.

In other races, Democrat Joe Biden was declared the statewide winner in Maine in the race for president, claiming three of the state's four Electoral College votes. The fourth vote, from Maine's 2nd Congressional District, will be awarded to President Donald Trump.

Nationwide, the presidential race is still too close to call.

Back in Maine, U. S. Rep. Jared Golden, D-Maine, defeated Republican Dale Crafts to reclaim the 2nd Congressional District seat in congress with 53 percent of the vote.

U.S. Rep. Chellie Pingree also won reelection to the U.S. House of Representatives representing Maine's 1st Congressional District. with 62 percent of the vote.
