Police in Bath were investigating a child custody complaint when they discovered a large amount of marijuana and arrested two people.

Lieutenant Robert Savary says Detective Marc Brunelle went to a residence on Bumpy Hill Road just before 3:00 on Tuesday afternoon. While he was there, Brunelle said he noticed the home had an overwhelming odor of marijuana and questioned the residents, Joseph Plummer and Alison Hartill.

The couple eventually showed him the drugs that were later determined to be 17.5 pounds of processed marijuana, some of it packaged and some stored in totes. Plummer and Hartill were both issued summonses charging them with Unlawful Possession of Marijuana. They're expected to make their first court appearance in November.

The estimated street value of the pot is $70,000.
