A Camden man faces multiple charges after holding police at bay for several hours in Hanover.

Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland says state police were first called to the Route 2 house at around 2:30 Tuesday morning by a woman who said she was Paul Legasse's girlfriend. She told police that she had been beaten and threatened with a knife before escaping from the house. Police say she suffered facial injuries, but did not require medical attention.

Traffic on Route 2 was detoured around the scene for hours, as the State Police tactical and negotiators worked to resolve the standoff with the 40-year-old. Negotiators talked with Legasse for about 90 minutes, before he surrendered just before noon. He's charged with domestic violence assault and criminal threatening.
