Brunswick Police say one person is dead and another was injured after a double shooting at a homeless shelter.

WGME-TV reports the incident started when an armed man with a handgun allegedly broke into one of the apartment-type units at the Tedford Housing Shelter on Federal Street, just after 11 Monday night. Two people were in the apartment at the time and one of them struggled with the intruder. In the struggle, both the intruder and one of the occupants was shot. Police say it was the man who broke into the apartment who fled the residence, and died of his injuries outside the building. The tenant was taken to a local hospital, treated, and released. The names of those involved have not been released.

Other tenants of the housing shelter, which is set up like apartments, were not evacuated, although Federal Street was closed all night. Police say the investigation is ongoing but no charges are expected.

We'll update this story as more details become available.
