Maine -- or any place for that matter -- is no place to be cold in the winter without the proper clothing most of us take for granted.

Hats and gloves and socks are must-have items in the winter. And a program at Blue Hill’s First Congregational Church is trying to make sure those who need hats and gloves have those available to them

The clothesline of hand-knit or store-bought items isn’t exclusive. But it is community stepping up and walking the walk not just talking the talk.

And 55 people have stepped up and hand-made or purchased the needed items. Numerous less fortunate families were already helped out.

But if the weather hands us the sub-zero temperatures, as it seems to have been doing weekly, the clothesline is there at the First Congregational Church on Tenney Hill in Blue Hill. Items are taken to help out in the cold weather. Items are left to help others cope with the winter weather. And items are labeled and the gender and sizes are also displayed.
