CMA Music Festival attendees got a huge surprise on Friday afternoon (June 10) as they packed Nashville's venue The Stage on Broadway. Blake Shelton showed up and performed for nearly an hour, churning out hits like "Boys 'Round Here," "Honey Bee," "Sangria" and more.

In the video above, the band at The Stage is playing "Fishing in the Dark." When all the screaming and hollering begins, you know Shelton has set foot onstage.

“I don’t get down here in enough time every year to plan a fan club party,” Shelton says (quote via The Tennessean). “I’m going to start right now. To country music.”

He launched the set with "Ol' Red" and throughout his performance, fans shouted favorite song titles at the singer.

While "Boys 'Round Here" is a quintessential Shelton song, he admits it doesn't have much substance to it--and he's okay with that.

"It's a stupid song, I know that," Shelton explains. "But it's fun and it doesn't have to be brain surgery."

“I’m always jealous of people who get to play on Broadway,” he said. “This is way better for me personally. It's where I got my start, in places like this.”

Shelton played Nissan Stadium on Saturday evening (June 11).
