On the heels of a winter storm that dumped more than a foot of snow in some parts of the state on Thursday, the National Weather Service is calling for cold temperatures and even more snow to move into eastern Maine over the weekend.

Forecasters say temperatures in the Bangor area could drop to 17 degrees below zero Friday night with the wind chill before a weak weather maker brings 1-to-3 inches of snow to the area on Saturday.

A strong storm system could bring heavy snow and wind late Sunday night into Monday, according to the extended forecast. The best chance for heavy snowfall will be across central and Downeast Maine, with 12-18 inches predicted for the Bangor area, according to the National Weather Service.
