Police are investigating the death of a baby at a hospital days after he was found unresponsive.

When the Child Passed, He Was in a Portland Hospital

The child passed away on June 20, 2024 at Maine Medical Center in Portland. Officials have not released the child's name.

Police Were Called to A Biddeford Home Several Days Earlier

It was approximately 11:00 on the morning of June 15, 2024 when the Biddeford Fire and Police Departments were called to 37 Emery Street in Biddeford for a report of an unresponsive 1-month-old boy. Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss says the child was transported to Southern Maine Hospital in Biddeford and later transferred to Maine Medical Center, where he died days later.

Few Details Have Been Released About How the Child Died

An autopsy was conducted on June 21, 2024, but officials are not releasing the cause and manner of death at this time. Maine State Police are working with Biddeford Police to investigate the circumstances of the child's death, which is standard protocol in any child's death in the state.

This is the second infant death this week under investigation in Maine. Tuesday morning, Bangor Police were called to the Capehart neighborhood for a report of an infant found unresponsive in their crib by family members.
