
These Are 6 of Maine’s Best Craft Breweries to Grab a Drink
Maine is known as a great state for craft beer.
According to the Maine Brewers' Guild, "As of early 2022, Maine is home to 165 active, licensed breweries, representing over 100 unique brands."
With so many to choose from, it's hard to select a favorite. That's why I picked my own six-pack. Let's crack open each one and see what we've got.
Maine Beer Company in Freeport, Maine
The Freeport, Maine beer company was founded in 2009 by brothers David and Daniel Kleban.
At last check, their website showed about 20 beers to choose from.
Some of their more popular brews are Breakfast (double IPA), Lunch (IPA) and Dinner (double IPA).
Rising Tide Brewing Company in Portland, Maine
This Portland brewing company was opened in 2010 by husband and wife Nathan and Heather Sanborn.
The brewery says their most popular beer is their Maine Island Trail Ale, a Session IPA.
It's a summer seasonal beer, and a portion of the proceeds support the Maine Island Trail Association.
Bissell Brothers in Portland, Maine
Bissell Brothers was founded in 2013 in Portland.
They're known for producing The Substance Ale, an IPA the company refers to as their "precious flagship."
According to their website, it's "Brightly dank and designed to be just mysterious enough.. Hopped with Falconer’s Flight, Centennial, Apollo, Chinook, and Simcoe."
Allagash Brewing Company in Portland, Maine
Allagash Brewing is located in Portland and was founded by Rob Tod in 1995.
The company says its Allagash White is the most-awarded wheat beer in the world.
It won its first Gold medal at the World Beer Cup in 1998.
Oxbow Brewing Company in Newcastle, Maine
Oxbow is a small farmhouse brewery located in Newcastle.
Beer drinkers can also visit Oxbow Blending & Bottling in Portland and the Oxbow Beer Garden in Oxford.
One of their more popular brews is their Farmhouse Pale Ale.
Foundation Brewing Company in Portland, Maine
Foundation was created in 2014 and is owned by two couples, John and Tina Bonney and Joel and Christie Mahaffey.
One of the more popular beers from the Portland brewery is Epiphany, a New England double IPA.
