Normally November 1st marks the start of winter parking rules in Bangor. However, changes have been made that will postpone parking headaches.

City officials made a change to Bangor's winter parking rules. Normally the start of November marks the start of odd-even parking. However, back in 2017 a change was made that the ordinance goes into effect at the time of the first significant storm. The Bangor Public Works Director, Police and Fire Chiefs will announce when a storm is deemed significant enough to begin winter parking rules. They will then remain in effect until March 31st.

Need a refresher on the law of the land? Here's the breakdown from the Bangor Police Department:

'1) Night Parking – Vehicles cannot park on a public street or parking area between midnight and 6:00 AM. Cars can be ticketed and towed for this violation.

2) Alternate Side Parking (Odd-Even) – Parking is allowed on only one side of the street. On the odd numbered days of the month, cars must park on the side of the street with odd numbered addresses. On the even days of the month, cars must park on the side of the street with even numbered addresses. (i.e. On Nov 1st cars would park on the same side of the street as houses with odd numbered addresses like 1, 3, 5, etc.). Cars can be ticketed for this violation. Please note this requirement does not apply to streets where one side of the street is already posted to prohibit parking or where parking is restricted by time limits.

3) Blocking Snow Removal – Vehicles cannot be parked on a public street or parking area so as to interfere with or hinder plowing or snow removal operations. Cars can be ticketed and towed for this violation at any time of day.

Ticket waiver fees for these violations range from $10-$20 and tow fees are a minimum of $65 per vehicle.
