A Bangor man has been charged after a recent rash of vehicle thefts at local car dealerships, and investigators are now trying to determine if the individual is connected to another string of vehicle thefts in 2015.

Cody Fairless, 27, was arrested Monday by Bangor detectives, police said Wednesday.

Fairless was charged in connection with five recent motor vehicle thefts at two Bangor car dealerships.

The most recent rash of automobile thefts started in mid-August, when an abandoned 2017 Dodge Durango was discovered near Husson Avenue in Bangor.

Subsequent vehicle thefts were discovered on Sept. 21 and Sept. 27.

The recovered vehicles were examined by investigators from the Bangor Police Department and the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office.

Police said vehicles stolen from car dealerships were believed to have been used in commercial building burglaries, which were under investigation by the sheriff’s office.

Officers are now reopening investigations into vehicle thefts that occurred in 2015, trying to determine if those thefts are connected to the more recent crimes.

Fairless is being held at the Penobscot County Jail, and has been charged with unauthorized use of property, felony theft, operating after revocation and burglary.
