A Bangor man faces three felony charges after police say he assaulted his girlfriend's 2-year-old child Wednesday.

Tevis Williams, 26, is charged with elevated aggravated assault (Class A), domestic violence assault (Class B) and assault on a child less than 6 years of age (Class C).

The arrest came after police responded to an area doctor’s office at about 8 p.m. for a report of a 2-year-old child with injuries. Upon arrival, detectives found the young child to have "suspicious bruising."

The child was taken to Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor for treatment.

Police say Williams is not the biological father of the child.

The case is still under investigation.
