Gorham Police report a 3-year-old boy has died after he was hit by a car that had a 13-year-old behind the wheel.

The accident happened at approximately 6:30 Wednesday evening on Tamarack Circle, in the Friendly Village mobile home park in Gorham. According to the Portland Press Herald, the girl was alone in the vehicle when it struck the child. The names of those involved have not been released and police have not commented on why the girl was driving. Maine law prohibits anyone under the age of 15 from even applying for a learner's permit, which requires a licensed driver to be in the car.

Police continue to investigate the circumstance leading up to this accident.
