A house fire in Wilton just after midnight on Saturday claimed the life of 81-year-old Sharon Rainey. She and her significant other, 84-year-old Robert Adams were inside the house at 62 Magrath Road in Wilton when the fire started.

A neighbor who witnessed the fire found Mr. Adams outside after he had injured himself by jumping from a window. Upon learning that Ms. Rainey was still inside the residence, the neighbor and responding police officers went through a window and rescued her. She had sustained severe burns.

Both residents were taken to Franklin Memorial Hospital and later flown by LifeFlight to Maine Medical Center where Ms. Rainey later died of her injuries. Mr. Adams was in critical condition, at the last report. The neighbor and Wilton cops were treated for smoke inhalation.

It's believed the blaze started as a chimney fire.
