1-Year-Old Struck and Killed By A Pickup in School Parking Lot [UPDATE]
Police have released the identities of a one-year-old child who was struck and killed by a vehicle in the parking lot to the Alton Elementary School, and the driver of the pickup.
WABI-TV reports police were called to the school just before 4:30 Friday afternoon to a report of a motor vehicle accident. Responding officers found that a toddler, Drake Sechrest of Howland, had been hit by a pickup truck in the school parking lot on the Argyle Road. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Department of Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland says the child was there with family who were watching a family member use a go-kart in the parking lot. The driver of the truck, 49-year-old George Madore of Old Town, didn't see the child before running over him. Madore works as a janitor at the school.
State Police, Old Town Police, and the Penobscot County Sheriff's Department responded to the crash. The investigation by the State Police is continuing.
