She was sitting in the backseat and was not wearing a seatbelt when the accident happened, just before 3 o'clock near the parking lot for St. Saveur Mountain in Acadia National Park.

Her husband, who was driving the vehicle, and their five-month old son survived with minor injuries. Police say Pradeep Mohnraj, age 31, was driving north on Route 102 when a small animal ran into the roadway. He swerved to avoid the animal, that he told police may have been a rabbit, and lost control of the car.

Mohanraj was wearing a seatbelt and the infant was strapped into his car seat. The father and son were taken to Mount Desert Island Hospital in Bar Harbor, and treated for bumps and bruises.
