Warden’s Don’t Need Volunteers but They Do Need Information

Maine wardens are searching for Geraldine Anita Largay (left), who went missing while hiking in Wyman Township. (Maine Warden Service)

The search for a missing Tennessee woman continues and Maine Game Wardens are hopeful that someone out there may have the information they need.

Warden Corporal John MacDonald says the Commissioner of the Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife and the Colonel of the Maine Warden Service will evaluate each coming day to determine the most appropriate direction in which to proceed and search for 66 year old Geraldine Largay.

Corporal MacDonald says they’ve received a lot of offers from people to help search for the woman who went missing while hiking the Appalachian trail in Maine. He says however because the terrain they’re searching is so challenging they cannot use volunteers who have not had formal search and rescue training.

Corporal MacDonald says what would be the most helpful at this time would be information about an unidentified woman who apparently called the Stratton Motel back on July 24th stating that “inchworm” was late in rendezvousing with her husband as planned. “Inchworm” is Geraldine Largay’s trail name.

If you have any helpful information you’re asked to contact the Augusta Public Safety Dispatch Center at (207) 624-7076 or 1-800-452-4664 (Maine only).
