Police have identified the man who was killed when his pickup truck collided with a tractor-trailer on Route 1 in Waldoboro Wednesday morning.

Rody Conway, 79, of Waldoboro was killed in the wreck near Bullwinkle’s Steakhouse, Waldoboro police told the Lincoln County News.

Waldoboro Police Chief Bill Labombarde said he did not believe anyone else was hurt in the accident.

Andrew Pierce of Newport was driving the tractor-trailer, a milk truck registered to Newport-based Lyle Pierce Inc., police said.

Investigtors said Pierce was traveling north on Route 1, and the accident occurred as Conway attempted to enter the roadway.

Pierce tried to avoid the collision by swerving into the southbound lane but his big rig T-boned the pickup.

Police said both vehicles traveled approximately 100 feet after the collision, coming to rest on the edge of the southbound lane. The tractor-trailer came to a rest on its right side with the pickup just ahead of and to the left of the larger vehicle.
