Three people, including a Penobscot County sheriff’s deputy, were hurt in an accident on outer Hammond Street in Bangor Tuesday.

The Bangor Daily News reports the deputy’s vehicle collided with a car near Jason’s Pizza at about 12:30 p.m.

The deputy suffered serious injuries and was taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center.

The woman who was driving the car and a passenger in the vehicle were also taken to the hospital.

A dog in the woman’s car was taken to a local animal hospital.

Police haven’t released the names of the people who were hurt in the accident.

Police are still investigating the cause of the wreck, which snarled traffic on Route 2.

Traffic was diverted onto Target Industrial Circle while crews cleaned up the accident.
