Stolen Items From Area Camps Recovered

Two juveniles have been charged in connection with a string of thefts from seasonal camps. Most of the stolen property was recovered and will be returned to the owners.

Washington County Sheriff Donnie Smith said in a press release Tuesday that break-ins were reported on or about August 17th. Deputies discovered that four seasonal camps on Lower Oxbrook Lake in T6 ND BPP had been burglarized  before daylight on the 17th and several thousand dollars worth of items stolen. In addition, hundreds of dollars worth of damage had been done to the properties.

Smith says among the items taken were chain saws, firearms, hunting bows, walking talkies, hand tools, a four wheeler and other items. The total value, Smith says, exceeded four thousand dollars.

Nearly all the stolen property was recovered by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, the Indian Township Warden Service, and the Maine Warden Service. It will be returned to the victims at a later date.

Sheriff’s Deputies were able to identify two suspects in the case through physical evidence, witness statements, and help from the community. The names are not being released because both suspects are juveniles. The case has been turned over to the Juvenile Corrections Officer and the local District Attorneys Office to determine what charges will be filed.
