Stake Land is a Great Movie That Happens to Have Vampires [VIDEO]

If you love 'The Walking Dead' I strongly suggest that you check out 'Stake Land' on Netflix. It's a vampire movie, rather than featuring zombies, but the story is very familiar. Focused more on the survival of humans than on the undead. And it's really well done!

Jim and I were looking for a horror movie to watch last night and we came across 'Stake Land.' We both love vampire flicks, so we decided to check it out and what we found was a pleasant surprise. No dramatic horror music. No tuxedos. No hokey vampire stereotypes. Instead, it was a touching and often sad film about people thrown together by extreme circumstances. And it happens to have vampires in it.

Much like 'The Walking Dead,' this movie tells the story of a few lead characters who are trying to get to a safe community. In this case, it's a safe zone known as 'New Eden.' The U.S. has been taken over by vampires who are not pretty and not elegant, as they often are in Hollywood. Instead, they look a lot like the zombies Rick and Darryl fight on TV.

The story is solid. The acting is above-average, including a part played by 'Top Gun' actress Kelly McGillis. (who plays a nun) And the suspense will have you on the edge of your seat repeatedly. This movie got a 75% rating on the Rotten Tomatoes website, which means the critics even loved it! I hope you'll check it out!
