Maine Marine Patrol Officers say the search for a missing kayaker in the Presumpscot River is now considered a recovery mission for his body.

Rescue crews were dispatched to the river at around 6:30 Thursday evening, after a tandem kayak capsized near the Allen Avenue bridge in Falmouth. An unidentified boy never made it back to the shore.

His companion, who was wearing a life jacket, was able to swim to safety. The missing boy, who's believed to be 16 years old, was not wearing a life vest. Sergeant Tom Hale of the Marine Patrol says the current is strong in that particular section of the river.

Members of the Marine Patrol, Maine Warden Service, State Police dive team, Falmouth's harbormaster, and Falmouth Fire and Police searched for the boy, but he was never found. That search will continue today, weather permitting.
