Jennifer Hudson and the children of Sandy Hook Elementary School share something more than Sunday's beautiful performance. All their lives have been touched by tragedy at the hands of a gunman. But at the big game on Sunday, they raised their voices together to celebrate America, the Beautiful!

The country mourned the loss of 20 children and six adults at Sandy Hook Elementary School on December 14th. 20-year-old Adam Lanza is facing multiple charges for storming the Connecticut school after killing his mother, Nancy Lanza, at their home.

Hudson is no stranger to tragedy. In October of 2008, her 57-year-old mother Darnell Donnerson, and 29-year-old brother Jason were found shot to death inside the Chicago home Donnerson shared with Hudson's sister, Julia. An Amber Alert was issued for Hudson's 7-year-old nephew Jason. His body was later found and he, too was the shot to death. 27-year-old William Balfour, estranged husband of Julia, was convicted for the killings and given three life sentences.

On Sunday, Jennifer Hudson joined with the Sandy Hook Chorus to sing "America, the Beautiful" before the Super Bowl. Seeing those smiling children and knowing what it must have meant to them to be there, to sing with Jennifer Hudson, and to hear the applause brings tears to my eyes everytime I see it. So...I've got my tissues handy. Here we go!
