Officials in Augusta have evacuated three residents from an apartment building after finding numerous code violations and mountains of trash in what city officials called the worst case of hoarding they have seen.

WGME in Portland reports that the building at 44 State Street in Augusta likely will be torn down after city officials discovered piles of clothes, food and trash on the second floor, where the tenants had been living.

Code enforcement officials found other safety violations within the home including water damage and electrical problems.

The tenants have found another place to live, according to the WGME report below.
