A Portland woman was charged with animal cruelty after police say she left a dog in a hot car with the window only slightly cracked.

Police say 21-year-old Nakita Haller left the animal in a vehicle, which was parked in the Worth Parking Lot in Portsmouth, New Hampshire Saturday night.

When police arrived on the scene, the dog was whining and pacing, and was taken to an area animal hospital and treated for moderate dehydration.

Haller said the dog belonged to her brother, but police say she refused to disclose his name or location. The brother is currently being sought for questioning.
