A state trooper was hurt when his SUV was rear-ended by a tractor trailer on 295 Thursday morning, according to Maine Department of Public Safety Spokesman Steve McCausland.

Trooper Greg Stevens, who was able to walk away from the wreck, was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Following the collision, the semi caught fire and ended up in the median. The fire destroyed the truck and caused a grass fire in the median, which was extinguished by firefighters.

The driver of the truck was not hurt.

The trooper's SUV had been in the breakdown lane just prior to the accident, McCausland said.

The wreck caused major delays for drivers on 295 northbound, which had to be shut down while crews cleaned up the accident.
