A pest-control contractor who was hired to clean out a chicken barn accidentally mortally wounded another employee of the Moark Egg Farm. Police say the contractor had no idea that he'd shot anyone.

The contractor was using a 22 caliber rifle to kill rodents and stray chickens inside one of the barns. The building must be totally cleaned out before new chickens can be put in it.

The 57-year-old victim walked into the barn, at some point, and caught a bullet, although the contractor never saw him. The victim made his way through several barns at the former DeCoster Egg Farm before collapsing. Another employee found him and called for an ambulance, but the man died on the way to the hospital.

The victim's name has not been released pending notification of family in Texas. An autopsy is being performed and police are investigating but they say all indications are that this was just a tragic accident.
