I don't know of anyone that doesn't like a great photograph. Pictures can carry such weight and emotion. A few months ago I stumbled across a photo of my late son, Ben, whom I think of most every day, but that particular photo, which I haven't seen in years, captured a wonderful moment that reduced me weak-kneed tears. I feel badly because I don't remember who took that particular picture, but I'm so thankful he or she did. The many gifts of photographers are so often taken for granted, but today I learned that one notable shutterbug is using her incredible gift to actually saves lives--she's giving dogs a voice.

Shannon Johnstone is a professional photographer, and is an associate professor at a college in Raleigh, North Carolina. One day Johnstone decided to use her gift to help shelter dogs find homes. Her photos of the dogs that nobody seems to want shows the love and life each one of them have. To date, Johnstone has saved 67 beautiful, healthy dogs from euthanasia.
