A motorcyclist from New York was killed Monday afternoon when he lost control of his bike on Route 111 in Alfred, according to a press release from the Maine Department of Public Safety.

Robert Locke, 36, of Lynbrook, NY, was riding to Laconia, NH when he swerved to avoid a vehicle turning onto Clark Road, spokesman Stephen McCausland said in the release.

He was thrown form his bike, suffering serious injuries. Locke was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford, the release said.

Police say he was wearing a helmet.

It marks the fifth motorcycle death in Maine this year, compared to ten deadly motorcycle accidents at this same time in 2015.
