The National Weather Service in Gray has issued a flood watch from late Tuesday night through Thursday morning.

"Widespread rainfall of 3 inches or more may push smaller rivers and streams over their banks on Wednesday," the agency posted on its Facebook page Tuesday.

The agency says flash flooding may be possible and residents should take action if a flash flood warning is issued.

WABI-TV5 meteorologist Arielle Whooley says showers should be heavy at times.

"Rainfall across Maine later Tuesday evening through Wednesday evening will likely range from about 1.0”- 2.0” over western parts of the state too possibly 3”+ over eastern parts of the state," said Whooley.
