Emera Maine crews continue to work on restoring power to thousands of customers that was knocked out by last night's thunderstorms, but report it's slow going.

Company officials reported at 7:00 Monday evening that service was interrupted to 4900 customers, after a string of severe thunderstorms wreaked havoc on the system. The storms' high winds broke poles and pulled down power lines, particularly in the East Millinocket-Millinocket-Medway region.

At 11:00 this morning, Emera sent out a release that said 2492 customers were still without power. Company officials say crews have worked through the night but the need to replace poles and lines is making it a slow process. Electricity is expected to be restored to all customers by 10:00 tonight.
