Fast Food eateries are located throughout the state but who knew we had such a limited amount of options when choosing a drive through!?

I will admit to feeling a twinge of excitement when leaving the state because it often comes with a stop at a fast food place not available in Maine. Sonic, Long John Silver's, and Chick-fil-A are all large food chains that can be found in neighboring New Hampshire but can't be found in Vacationland! (At least not yet: Remember: Chick-fil-A is coming to Bangor!)

According the the findings of Thrillist.com Maine is the 3rd worst state for fast food options. They also based their findings on things like:

  • Regional chains created in the state
  • The variety of choices and presence of enviable franchises
  • The deliciousness and uniqueness of their options in general

They only considered the restaurants that fell into their criteria which includes counter service,  food preparations taking less than 10 minutes, and there has to be at least 3 locations.

Even our McDonald's lobster rolls couldn't save us from our low rankings! Fortunately for us, things could be worse! We could live in Alaska or Vermont who rank as the worst states for fast food. It is also worth mentioning Vermont wins "healthiest state" awards regularly.

The top 3 states to get some fast food with variety are Texas, California, and Alabama.
