Bangor’s Registration Period for Short-Term Rentals is Now Open
People interested in running a short-term rental in Bangor can learn more about the process at two information sessions.
A Short-Term Rental Doesn't Have to Be on Airbnb, But You Get the Idea
Spring is here and the registration period is open for short-term rentals in Bangor. The City defines a short-term rental as renting two or fewer bedrooms in a home/apartment/dwelling or the entire home/apartment/dwelling for less than 30 days. Think Airbnb, Vrbo, or whichever site you want to rent through. It's a great way for people with room to spare to make a little extra money. Plus, it can make visiting the area more affordable to people who want to come for vacation.

Registration of a Rental Unit is Now Really Easy With an Online Portal
The City of Bangor is working to make the process easy for potential rental agents. An online portal has been set up so people can apply for a license to operate a short-term rental. You'll need to know whether your dwelling is 'hosted' or 'non-hosted.' Hosted means that you live on the same property, whether in the same house or a different house on the same piece of land. More information about requirements can be found on the City of Bangor's website.
Informational Sessions Will Answer Questions for Residents and Rental Agents
In truth, there are several things you should know before taking the plunge, maybe most importantly how to ensure your dwelling is up to code. So there will be two informational sessions on short-term rental inspections on Tuesday, May 14th, at noon, and Thursday, May 16th, at 6 p.m. People interested in learning more can attend in person at the temporary City Hall (at the rear of the Penquis building) at 262 Harlow Street or join the meetings virtually. Questions can be sent before the meeting to planning@bangormaine.gov by the end of the day on Friday, May 10th. Those questions will be answered at the sessions.
