Maine May Celebrate Bicentennial With New License Plate

The Maine Senate on Tuesday approved a bill that would allow the creation of a special Maine license plate to celebrate the state's bicentennial.

The Bangor Daily News reports the bill would allow the Maine Bureau of Motor Vehicles to offer the special, commemorative plate between January 2018 and December 2020.

Maine became an independent state in 1820.

A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Maine State Cultural Affairs Council.

The bill heads to the Maine House for additional votes.
