Line dancing is making a comeback in Alton, as the Mad Moose Saloon & Smokehouse plans to hold a line dancing class on Saturday, May 27th, from 7 to 9 pm. Mad Moose Saloon & Smokehouse is no stranger to line dancing, as that building had previously been home to the iconic Happy Acres Hall.

Mad Moose Saloon & Smokehouse’s own Sharisse Roberts will be leading an exciting line dancing class that is open to dancers of all levels. Whether you're a seasoned pro or a complete beginner, come join in the fun and learn a mix of old and new dances. The fee for the class and entry is $15.

For those who are unfamiliar with line dancing, it is a choreographed dance in which a group of people dance along to a repeating sequence of steps while arranged in one or more lines or rows. The lines usually face all in the same direction. Lines. Dancing. Got it?

For many decades, the legacy of Happy Acres Hall has been an integral part of the Alton community. With a rich history dating back to the 1800s, this building has served as a saloon, dance hall, and bar over the years. With a capacity of almost 550 people, the 7500-square-foot building has always been a hub for community gatherings. The grounds continue to hold a special place in the hearts of many in the community.

One of the key features of the Hall was its impressive 60' by 120' maple hardwood dance floor, which was ideal for dancing. Additionally, the ceiling was adorned with more than 650 stenciled tiles that beautifully captured the history of the countless individuals who had enjoyed their time at Happy Acres over the years.
