Lewiston Man To Spend 45 Years In Prison For Fatal Hit & Run

A Lewiston man received his sentence this week for a fatal hit and run that killed his pregnant ex-girlfriend.

According to the Portland Press Herald, 36-year-old Evaristo De Deus knew what he was doing when he struck Laudrinha Kubeloso from behind as she walked home from an adult education class in 2014. He pleaded guilty to murder in October. The judge said that De Deus's actions were 'senseless and unprovoked' and that he was angry about not getting all of his property back when the couple ended their relationship.

De Deus was arrested at JFK Airport in New York airport just 10 minutes before his flight to Haiti was due to take off. He's a citizen of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
