Police have released the name of a man who was killed when his Pownal home burned early this morning.

The State Fire Marshal's Office says the fire broke out at around 1:00 this morning at a home on Elmwood Road. The body of 65-year-old Barry Cain was found inside the apartment that was located above a garage.

Investigators with the Fire Marshal's Office suspect the fire was weather-related, as the electricity had gone out, and Cain was known to use alternative sources of heat to keep warm. The damage was extensive, however, and so an exact cause wasn't immediately determined.
