Jim and I love truly scary movies. And 'Oculus' definitely fits the bill! Rarely has a film kept me on the edge of my seat throughout, but this one did it in spades. Compelling story, great acting, and a mysterious evil force kept us riveted!

Anyone who wonders why I'm talking about horror when it's nearly Christmas is not a true fan of scare-flicks. This is, traditionally, one of the top seasons for horror movies. Maybe it's a release after dealing with family? In our case, it's not the relatives that drive us to indulge in holiday scare-fests. It's just a love of the genre. So we checked out Netflix and found 'Oculus.' Wow! Horror, thriller, ghost story, tale of evil...call it what you will, it's awesome!

The movie tells the story of a young woman's attempt to exonerate her brother who was convicted of murder in the death of their parents. She claims the household was overtaken by evil forces emanating from an ornate mirror that graced her father's study. An antiques dealer, she obtains the mirror and sets it up in their old house.

Her brother is released from custody and she takes him to the house where she's set up an elaborate system of cameras and alarms to try and prove that supernatural forces were in play when their parents died. What follows is one of the best nail-biters I've ever watched. I was literally on the edge of my seat, waiting to see what was going to happen next. Add in an excellent cast, including 'Battlestar Gallactica's' Katey Sachoff and the producers who brought us 'Paranormal Activity' and 'Insidious,' and it's tough to beat. I would highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys a scary thriller. You'll love it!
