Thieves broke into the Gouldsboro Town Office this week and made off with guns, medications, and cash.

According to the Ellsworth American, the suspects entered the building Monday night, possibly through a rear door that leads into a meeting room. Two handguns were stolen, along with medications being held as evidence, about $14,000 in checks, and about $2,000 in cash.

The thieves broke into a vault that has a heavy, fireproof door, and a deadbolt. Police told the EA that the suspects must have had a crowbar and possibly some metal cutters in order to get to the loot.

Police are continuing to investigate, and say they did find some fingerprints that may or may not be significant. The Town selectmen will discuss increased security at Thursday's meeting, including better outdoor lighting, a security system, and better locks.
