Want to show off your girl power? Support other women in our community while helping a deserving family get a new place to live? Then Habitat for Humanity of Greater Bangor wants to hear from you!

Each year, HFHGB has what they call the Women's Build week. It's a week dedicated to the volunteerism of women and helping them become more confident with the building process. In addition, it comes with an incentive from Lowe's, who give a $5,000 gift card to HFHGB to be used for their next building project. Habitat's Amanda Charette says, "We have been very fortunate to have two Lowe's locally who not only supported us, but have donated their time and materials to several of our projects."

As a matter of fact, a Women's Build painting clinic will be held Friday night, May 9th at Lowe's in Bangor. From 6pm to 8pm, learn painting techniques and there will also be a fun do-it-yourself project! The Build itself takes place on Saturday, May 10th from 10am to 2pm on Fifth Street in Bangor.

I was involved with this event two years ago, when we were clearing a lot in Hampden in anticipation of a future build. It was great! But this year is going to be much more fun for me. See, this time around, the project is a rehab of a previously built Habitat House on Fifth Street in Bangor. We will be helping with projects like finishing and painting stairs, completing a fence, and completing a deck. I'm excited because I'm kind of a 'realty-buff' who loves to look at the insides of houses. Cool!

If you're like me and not necessarily proficient with power tools, no worries. Come by and help out anyway! We'll find something for you to do, whether it's wielding a paint brush or hauling materials.

I'm very honored this year to be the Celebrity VIP Volunteer, which basically means that I get to say a few words before the fun starts. Thanks to HFHGB and Amanda Charette for thinking of me!

Check out the Women's Build Facebook page for more information. I hope we see you there!
