Maine State Police
Maine State Police

State police responded after a garbage truck damaged power lines hanging across Route 1 in Bridgewater Wednesday afternoon.

A “Casell garbage truck/trailer” damaged the lines at about 12:45 p.m., state police said in a news release.

The accident was caused “due to wind and a mechanical failure which lead to the top cover of the trailer to open and stand up right adding about 7 extra feet to the height of the trailer.”

Crews were on the scene repairing the damage for approximately 2½ hours.
