A family of six was displaced by a fire in Searsport Sunday night.

The fire destroyed the family's home on Farm Road.

Crews from Searsport, Belfast and West Frankfort responded to the blaze around 7 p.m.

“What happened was they apparently had some frozen pipes, and this time of year we’d like to caution everyone to use caution on thawing their pipes," Searsport Asst. Fire Chief Herbert Kronholm told WABI. "They were using a torpedo heater to defrost the pipes in the trailer, which is obviously what ignited the fire.”

The Red Cross is assisting the family.
