A father and son face several charges after they allegedly led police on a high-speed chase and injured two officers Thursday.

Joseph Chambers, 46, of Palmyra, and his son, Devin Chambers, 25, of Augusta were in a vehicle operating erratically in Pittsfield, according to police.

Around 7:25 p.m., police found the vehicle in a ditch on Interstate 95 and determined the driver, Joseph Chambers, was impaired. While investigating, Joseph Chambers sped away from the scene and led police on a high-speed pursuit.

At one point, Joseph Chambers attempted to reverse direction on the interstate and ram the pursuing police cruiser, police said.

Police were eventually able to disable the vehicle.

While officers were attempting to arrest Joseph, Devin Chambers attacked two officers. Additional law enforcement officers responded, and both father and son were placed under arrest.

The two injured officers received medical attention and were released from the hospital.

Joseph Chambers was charged reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon, operating under the influence, eluding an officer, and refusing to submit to arrest.

Devin Chambers was charged with two counts of assault on a police officer and violation of probation.

Both were taken to the Somerset County Correctional Facility.
