Authorities continue to investigate after the suspect in a shooting in Casco was killed while exchanging gunfire with deputies from the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office.

The Casco shooting suspect, Norman Strobel, 59, of Naples, was killed in a shootout with police at a mobile home on Songo School Road in Naples early Sunday morning, Stephen McCausland, a spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety, said in a news release Sunday afternoon.

A 55-year-old man who lived in the mobile home was also shot to death, the release said. His name has not been released pending notification of his family.

Maine State Police and the Maine Attorney General’s Office are investigating, standard procedure when an officer is involved in a shooting.

Deputies had been looking for Strobel since a shooting late Saturday night at a camp on Winifred Lane in Casco.

A man who was staying at the camp, Jason Almeida, 32, of Middleton, Rhode Island, was shot four times and is recovering after undergoing surgery at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.

Almeida’s girlfriend, Alyssa Goulet, 28, also of Middleton, was staying at the camp as well. She was not injured during the shooting.

The camp is owned by Sandra Goulet of Naples, Strobel's ex-girlfriend. She was not at the camp when the shooting occurred.

Strobel had a protection order issued against him on Sandra Goulet’s behalf, McCausland said. He had taken Sandra Goulet’s two dogs from her home at some point during the past week. The dogs were found unhurt at the mobile home in Naples.
