Driver in Fatal New Year’s Day Crash Sentenced
The driver in a fatal New Year’s Eve accident is going to prison. Shawn MacNevin pleaded guilty last week.
WABI-TV reports the 43-year-old from Hudson is sentenced to three years in prison, followed by four years probation. He entered his guilty plea on September 24th on charges of manslaughter and aggravated operating under the influence. MacNevin told the court he takes full responsibility for the crash that killed 37-year-old Elizabeth Horlieca.
The couple had been at a New Year’s Eve celebration before heading home to Hudson. They were traveling along Finson Road at around 2:30 a.m. when MacNevin lost control of the Jeep and hit a tree head-on.
Family members on both sides of the family had asked the judge to be lenient because the couple has four children. The judge said he took those requests into account and decided the state’s recommendation for a four year sentence was fair. During his probation, MacNevin will not be allowed to drink. His driver’s license has also been revoked for at least ten years.
