A Lewiston man was hit in the face by a bullet that police say ricocheted from a neighbor's property.

State Police say the bullet struck Cameron Hart as he was playing at the Stevens Mountain View Disc Golf Course. He underwent surgery to remove the bullet from his cheek at a Lewiston hospital.

Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland says the resulting investigation led police to a neighbor who was target practicing on his own property with a 9mm handgun. One of his bullets, that was fired from several feet away, likely ricocheted off an object on the man's Pearl Road property, according to police, and struck Hart in the face. The golf course is on the same road.

Police interviewed the man on Sunday. His name is not being released at this time, but troopers said he's cooperating with the investigation. The man's gun will be examined at the Crime Lab and additional investigative work will be completed before the case is turned over to the District Attorney's office.

So far, no charges have been filed.
