U.S. Rep. Chellie Pingree announced Tuesday that she and her husband, hedge fund manager Donald Sussman, have separated and plan to get a divorce.

Pingree, a Democrat who represents Maine’s 1st District, called it a "very amicable and truly mutual decision." She said it's sad for both of them, and they still have the "utmost respect for each other."

The two got married in June 2011. A year later, he rescued the Portland Press Herald and its sister newspapers before selling them this year. He's also a major Democratic donor.

Pingree will no longer be required to list his financial information on her disclosure forms. Because of that, she was issued a 30-day grace period after the Aug. 13 due date for her latest filing.
