The Maine Drug Enforcement Agency says a Brunswick man was arrested on heroin charges following a traffic stop on Saturday.

George Edward Jones, 39, was a passenger in a car that was pulled over on Pleasant St. in Brunswick.

Jones was immediately arrested on an outstanding warrant for failing to appear in court in connection with an operating after habitual offender revocation charge.

The MDEA says a backpack, which contained $10,000 worth of heroin, was found in the vehicle.

Jones is charged with aggravated trafficking in heroin and trafficking in prison contraband.

The MDEA says Jones is facing a contraband charge after officers found a small amount of crack cocaine on him after he was taken to the Cumberland County Jail.

The suspect was scheduled to make his initial court appearance in Portland on Monday.
