Bangor police are warning of a rash of purse thefts from women shopping in area stores.

Police say the thieves are quick, taking the bags from shopping carts when women walk away for a moment or two to browse. Ladies are being advised not to leave their purses/pocketbooks unattended even for a moment.

Police are investigating, which includes reviewing video surveillance dating back to the first of December. In the meantime, they ask that women be very cautious. Anyone with any information about the thefts is asked to call the Bangor Police Department. If you want to be anonymous, just press 6 and leave a message.
